Following a vegan diet saves, 1,100 gallons of water, 45 pounds of grain, 30 sq ft of forest, 20 pounds CO2 equivalent and 1 animals life each day!

I follow a plant-based diet, eating an abundance of fruit, veggies, and high-carb whole foods as this is what makes my body feel its best. There are so many ways to eat vegan find what works for you, what type of vegan diet is sustainable for you and makes you feel your best. With the increased popularity of veganism it is definitely becoming easier in society (easier does not always mean healthy) try avoid the processed foods the quick options ready meals or frozen  options. That yes, they may be vegan but, are they fueling your body in the best way? Avoid products with long ingredients lists. You are more likely to stick to a plant-based diet, if the main focus of your diet is on whole plant foods that are minimally processed, try eat plenty of fresh fruits and veggies your more likely to feel your best and thrive this way. Personally, adapting to a vegan diet was not too difficult being vegetarian from birth. I made this transition in my life not only for the positive effect on my own health but also for the benefit of the planet and the animals. It is the best decision I have made in my life. Whether you are already living a vegan lifestyle, trying to make the transition, or are simply dabbling in eating more vegan foods, I am proud of you! I understand the transition will be more challenging for others than my personal experience, so I hope these five important tips can help you along the way.

Change begins on your plate…

  1. Educate yourself

I encourage you to educate and inspire yourself fully. Educating and empowering yourself will help you tremendously in this new lifestyle. (Veganism is a lifestyle not just a diet).  There are so many resources available for you that will give you essential knowledge. Watch factual, educational documentaries, films and YouTube videos fill your mind with useful information. I recommend the following “Cowspiracy” “What The Health”, “Earthlings”, “Forks Over Knives”, and “Vegucated” most of these can be found to watch on Netflix. These films will enlighten you with factual information. It is always good to have facts and figures in your mind. Not only for yourself but, I am sure you will be asked questions when adopting this new vegan lifestyle. These films will answer the questions you may be thinking or give you the knowledge to answer the questions those around you will be asking. So get clued up before jumping into the lifestyle and continue to educate yourself throughout the journey. We can never have too much knowledge can we? Use social media as a positive tool in your life. You can educate yourself on veganism through Instagram for example; following other vegans, reading there inspiring posts, and find new exciting plant-based recipes. Some Instagram accounts I recommend visiting on  are ellenfisher, sarahlemkus, and jinti_fell. These three women are extremely educated in a vegan lifestyle. They have been following a vegan lifestyle for many years. They share beautiful, inspiring words, factual information and delicious recipes, so get educated and get inspired!

  2. Eat enough calories

This is very important when eating a plant-based diet. If your body is not getting enough calories, you wont feel your best, your body wont be getting what it needs and this could lead to you having cravings for other not so healthy foods. So stock up on the good stuff ,  by stocking up at home it will allow you to be able to eat enough calories as you will have an abundance of healthy options to reach for. Eat until you are completely satisfied. Plant- foods in general, are lower in calories than animal-based foods so, this means you do need to be eating more to be completely satisfied so fill your plate full of goodness!

Follow @plantbasedwildthings on Instagram. Fruit is one of the most healing, antioxidant rich, anti-viral and anti-parasitic foods we can consume.
  3. Veganize your favorite meals

You can turn any of your favorite meals vegan from vegan cottage pie, soups, salads, pizzas, pasta dishes, curries, plant-based burgers,  stir fry’s, mexican favorites, classic Sunday roast dinner, the list of delicious meals you can make is endless. There are so many meat substitutes, vegan cheeses, breads, tofu, pastas etc. available on the supermarket shelves and freezers now to help you out. If you are finding the transition particularly hard or are craving old habits, start by swapping these into your diet .They are excellent for transitioning to a vegan diet, but then try to stick to whole foods for optimum health. I do tend to avoid these “transition foods” but that is just as I feel by best by eating completely plant-based. Experiment with your diet and see what makes you feel your best. Find recipes, get inspired there are amazing websites, e-books and recipe books to help you get creative. Learn to love cooking for yourself, friends and family it makes it so much more enjoyable! Cooking vegan meals does not have to be complicated, you can make meals so simply. Cooking some veggies, some rice and pulses like chickpeas or butter beans, baking some sweet potatoes in the oven and you’ve got a delicious nutritious meal that will satisfy you completely.

  4. Surround yourself positive uplifting people

This is the most important tip I can give you, it has helped me so much in my life and will really help you in your lifestyle change. I am so thankful for everyone in my life and I am lucky to have so many beautiful, inspiring like-minded people who have supported me every step of the way, helping me get to where I am currently.  I couldn’t put into words how grateful I am for the support it’s definitely helped me. So spend time with supportive, uplifting, positive people that help you evolve, that educate you and impact your life in the best way. People who do not support you in your efforts to live a more compassionate, healthy lifestyle are not worth being surrounded by. You may even want to connect with like- minded people through social media this is a fantastic way to be continuously inspired and supported.

Your soul is attracted to people the same way flowers are attracted to the sun, surround yourself only with those who want to see you grow.
  5. Don’t worry about mistakes along the way

If you make mistakes along the way do not give up, pick yourself up and keep on going. It might be hard at first but I can assure you it is the best decision you will make. Do what suits you, and what makes your body and mind feel your best and above all love and embrace the journey to a new lifestyle.

The future of our planet is at stake and our choices matter. Your choices make a direct impact on the planet, animals and people make conscious decisions! In my eyes and from personal experience when you go vegan, you give up nothing. Instead you gain health, you gain abundance.  I experienced positive shifts in all aspects of my life, in my mind and soul. Above all your body will not be a tomb for animals just delicious whole foods. It is an amazing way of life, your actions begin to align with the ethics you already possess within your heart.

You are BEAUTIFUL, you are LOVED, you are VALUABLE and you are WORTHY of feeling healthy and amazing inside and out. you DESERVE love and abundance in your life.

Tell yourself this daily because it is the truth.

I hope you find my tips helpful its a learning curve. We grow and better ourselves each day. I hope I can inspire and support you to love yourself, love the animals and love the planet. You can do it! I am here to answer any questions and offer you limitless love and support x

  1. That’s a great article. I turned vegan in 2010 and it has been a wonderful journey ever since. My main issue was with my stomach. I had a very sluggish digestive system and it was always a cause of concern. But after turning vegan, it was amazing how my digestive process slowly became completely normal! That said, it’s a slightly tough journey being the “only” vegan in the entire family, but I have learned how to cope with it. 🙂 Lemme share this quote from Edgar’s Mission with you, which is one of my favorites – “If we could live happy and healthy lives without harming others, why wouldn’t we?”
